At Loving Mansion’s nursing home, acupuncture is offered as a supportive therapy to help residents manage pain, improve mobility, and enhance overall quality of life. Delivered by trained and licensed practitioners, our acupuncture service is carefully adapted for elderly residents, prioritising safety, comfort, and individual health needs.
For many of our elderly Chinese residents, acupuncture is quite familiar. It’s part of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), involving the use of fine, sterile needles inserted into specific points on the body. These points are believed to stimulate natural healing responses, improve circulation, and reduce pain and inflammation.
In older adults, the body responds differently to treatment. That is why acupuncture for elderly residents is performed in a gentle, carefully adjusted manner. Sessions typically involve:
Many elderly residents describe acupuncture sessions as soothing rather than painful. Some even feel warm, relaxed, or sleepy during treatment. For residents who may be sensitive, anxious, or frail, practitioners can include the use of acupressure or non-invasive stimulation instead of needles.
While acupuncture is culturally traditional, it is delivered in our nursing home as part of a modern, medically supervised care plan. Treatments are coordinated with nurses and doctors to ensure they are safe, appropriate, and complementary to existing medical treatments.
Acupuncture can be especially beneficial for residents dealing with long-term or age-related conditions, including:
Knee osteoarthritis, lower back pain and shoulder stiffness, can be improved with more blood circulation around affected joints, relaxing tight muscles, and reducing pain signals.
For residents recovering from a stroke, acupuncture may help with muscle tightness, limb weakness, numbness, and coordination issues that commonly occur after a stroke.
Many residents experience reduced flexibility especially after prolonged sitting or bed rest. Gentle acupuncture treatments may help loosen tight tissues and improve range of motion.
Acupuncture may help with any pain, tingling, or numbness in the hands and feet from diabetic neuropathy, post-stroke nerve damage, or age-related nerve changes.
Acupuncture can help relax tense muscles around the neck and head, and reduce the frequency or intensity of recurring headaches, tension headaches, or migraines.
Acupuncture may help digestive issues like bloating, constipation, low appetite and indigestion by improving gut movement and reducing discomfort.
Difficulty sleeping may be related to pain, anxiety, frequent urination, or disrupted sleep patterns. Acupuncture is often used to promote relaxation and support more restful sleep.
Acupuncture is sometimes used to support energy levels and overall vitality for many residents who experience ongoing tiredness, related to chronic illness, poor sleep, reduced activity, or emotional stress.
Safety is our top priority. Before starting acupuncture, residents receive a full assessment that includes:
Our acupuncture sessions are coordinated with doctors, nurses, and physiotherapists to ensure treatments complement existing care plans. Sterile, single-use needles are always used, and sessions are conducted in a calm, hygienic environment within the nursing home.

The place is very clean and makes us feel comfortable. Some of the double sharing rooms are quite spacious. The nurses and Caregivers are all very friendly and nice, the care and attention they give to each resident is rather personalized. I appreciate the daily health updates send by the team, including pics and videos. They are also very responsive in whatsapp when I communicate with them.Posted on Google Jocylyn LiewTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. My husband is much older than me, and our marriage faced a lot of opposition because of our large age gap — 30 years. Now he’s confined to a wheelchair, and I have to both work and take care of him. Over time, it became physically and mentally exhausting for me. Following a friend’s suggestion, I sent him to the Loving Mansion nursing home. I’m deeply grateful to the staff there — they are patient, caring, and professional. They make sure my husband is comfortable and happy, and I can finally relax and feel at ease.Posted on Google Tan KexinTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. What I like most about this nursing home is its beautiful environment — with comfortable beds and fresh air (as my father-in-law told me). In addition, they have a professional team that takes great care of the elderly with patience. They never scold or mistreat them, which makes the residents feel at ease and also reassures the family members who entrust their loved ones here.Highly recommend to everyone!Posted on Google Yeng 0524Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Posted on Google Gibson Ching Jing Sheng 2Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. It’s clear that medical excellence is a top priority at Loving Mansion. My father’s health has actually improved since moving in!Posted on Google Angeline LimTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. We discovered Loving Mansion when my mom's knee suddenly suffered severe pain and needed monitoring and care. Alan is helpful and prompt with our inquiries, allowing us to decide quickly and settled mom at Loving Mansion until her knee is recovered. The care centre is designed to keep the density low, allowing each resident to receive sufficient care and attention 24/7. they ensured folks with limited mobility to access everywhere easily. Toilets are always kept clean and dry to ensure the residents do not slip and fall. Rooms are of good sizes, equipped with air conditioning, ceiling fans and ventilation. Each resident would also have a flat screen tv installed for individual use. The staff nurses are caring and have great height of patience when dealing with the most demanding residents (observed during our visit within the 7 weeks mom spent there). They appointed a medical escort for my mom and helped us with doctor's appointment- mom's daily condition is communicated to us daily. Systematic and assuring. We are grateful for the sincere care given to my mom and we would not settle for anywhere else should we ourselves need care during the recovery period. Special thanks to Donn, Jamilah and Alan who always try their best to make my mom less homesick and ensure she is always safe.Posted on Google Daphne TaiTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. 强推!Loving Mansion的护士都很有爱心和耐心。。负责人Alan很专业,Loving Mansion有家的感觉,让我父亲可以好好的修养,也让我可以很放心的上班。。感恩!

Yes. Acupuncture is used as a supportive therapy. Unlike some herbal remedies, acupuncture does not involve ingesting substances that could interact with prescribed drugs. Therefore, it does not interfere with residents’ medications, or ongoing treatments, and it does not reduce their effectiveness.
Most residents feel little to no pain. The needles used are very thin, and sensations are usually mild, such as a light tingling, warmth, or gentle pressure. Treatments are stopped or adjusted immediately if a resident feels uncomfortable.
A typical acupuncture session lasts between 20 to 40 minutes, depending on the resident’s condition and tolerance. For frail residents, shorter sessions may be recommended.
In many cases, yes. Residents with conditions such as high blood pressure, diabetes, arthritis, or a history of stroke may still receive acupuncture, provided it is carefully planned. The practitioner will review medical records and consult nursing staff before starting treatment.
If a resident is uncomfortable with needles, acupuncture may not be suitable. However, treatments can be explained slowly and gently, and sessions are only carried out with the resident’s consent. In some cases, very minimal or alternative techniques may be considered.
All acupuncture treatments are provided by trained and qualified practitioners experienced in working with elderly patients. They follow strict hygiene and safety standards at all times.
Family members or residents can speak to our nursing staff to request an assessment. Our team will review the resident’s condition and advise whether acupuncture is suitable before scheduling sessions.
If you’re looking for gentle, supportive ways to improve your loved one’s comfort and daily wellbeing, acupuncture may be a helpful option. Our team at Loving Mansion is happy to explain how it works, who it’s suitable for, and how it fits alongside our nursing care plans.
